Im chemical engineering tech, and will study petrolum tech,i like all kind of engineering,would like improve?

I want to have good knowledge, gain new information, something not in school, i want to have information about electric, mechanical, power, instrument, ... etc, whenever i say that to my friends, they say that's imposable cuz its kinda hard, but there is something inside me that want to be different! can i improve my self by my self without extra courses, If so, where do you think i should start, and how can i teach my self, im 20 years old and 1 years to finish the college!
